Recently I was commissioned to photograph a running group complete their first Parkrun in Aylesbury. The ladies had spent fourteen weeks training with Erica Carter in Berkhamsted, building their running skills and stamina, and the culmination was a Saturday morning park run spanning 5k.
Erica has training courses for adult runners of all levels, from complete novices upwards, and the course fees from this beginners group went to support St Francis’ Hospice. Typical of British weather in November, the morning dawned with a persistent rainfall, however this didn’t dampen the spirits of the women who had donned their charity T-shirts along with a steely determination to see the course out. The runners kept a steady pace and all completed the course, encouraged along the way by Erica, and her assistants Heather and Sofie. The support within this group was visible, especially when they all cheered on the last member coming down the home stretch. The women were, very deservedly, delighted with their achievement, which was (quite rightly) recognised with a medal! The training had improved the women’s fitness levels and running ability, and completing this parkrun had given the group a sense of achievement and confidence, which could be clearly seen in their glowing expressions and happy faces.
